The month of January 2017 will never be a forgettable one in our Church history. Mostly because of the surprise we got from the government of the day through the sacked boss of FRC. I believe you know that I am referring to the “forced” retirement of Baba Adeboye through a wicked orchestrated policy, which was nothing but a target to the church. Sincerely, the law was to weaken the growth of the Church in Nigeria. Government might have pretended that they were trying to “fight” corruption in the church, but they lacked the power to do such. However, the law had done that which it was established. Baba Adeboye has been forced to quit. And it’s a big signal to Christian body in Nigeria. Mr. President has intervened and the House of Representatives are debating on the issue, but here’s the question, will Baba Adeboye come back to his “post”.

Fellow Christians, the book of Acts presents many scenarios to us on how the early Apostles” fought” for the faith. But, I’ll share one with us here.

After the visitation of Holy Ghost on the Apostles on the Pentecost day, they were strong, bold and fearless! Acts chapter 4 records that, “While Peter and John were speaking to the people, they were confronted by the priests, the captain of the Temple guard, and some of the Sadducees. These leaders were very disturbed that Peter and John were teaching the people that through Jesus there is a resurrection of the dead. They arrested them, and since it was already evening, put them in jail until morning…”

That is not the end of the story.

“The next day the council of all the rulers and elders and teachers of religious law met in Jerusalem. Annas the high priest was there, along with Caiaphas, John, Alexander and other relatives of the high priest. They brought in the two disciples and demanded, by what power, or in whose name have you done this?

Then Bible says, “Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, ” Rulers and elders of our people, are we being questioned today because we’ve done a good deed for a crippled man?

It continues,
“The religious leaders asked what to be done to the Apostles. We can’t deny that they have performed a miraculous sign, and everybody in Jerusalem knows about it…

We must warn them not to speak to anyone in Jesus’ name again. So they called the Apostles back in and commanded them never again to speak or teach in the name of Jesus.

Here this !
“But Peter and John replied, ” Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than Him? We cannot stop telling about everything we have seen and heard”.

The council then threatened them further, but they finally let them go because they didn’t know how to punish them without starting a riot”.

The reported story can be summarized in this way.

The Apostles had done many good to the land. They healed the sick, raised the dead, fed the poor and many more. They liberated them from darkness ! These, the “government” were not happy with because they were evil and wicked ! The government pretended to be guiding the masses, but they knew what they were doing ! The Apostles were arrested and jailed, later were called for questioning, challenging their authority and power. But, the Apostles whom we expected to be timid were full of confidence and boldness and they spoke. At the end, they were freed.

This is the point I am bringing out, if the Apostles had not spoken out, they would have been silent and probably there might not be anything call Christianity today !

In such line, the Nigeria Church has done many good to this nation than any other sect or body, including the government to a large extent ! The Christian body has provided education through establishment of various schools, they built hospitals, repaired roads, open the eyes of the blind, healed the sick and many uncountable ones. Courtesy of God’s grace. These, aided the growth and spread of the faith in Nigeria and North at large.

I am sure that the growth of Christianity is becoming a threat to the “enemy” of the faith. They have killed some of our brothers and sisters, burnt our churches. In fact, government in their “demonic” way forcefully hijacked our schools from us. So many has happened yet, Christians remains mute !

It is right time for Christian body to rise and act. We need to take the same bold step that the early Apostles took. They faced the rulers. They spoke and defended their faith ! I didn’t read that they carry guns anyway, yet, they defended their faith and won the case !

The early Apostles were bold. The “fought” for the faith. They were beaten, yet, they never stops speaking. They were not intimidated for any reason.
Do you know what, they had prayed for confidence, and God gave them.

We know that Nigeria Christian body is not proactive. We act only when we’re been hurt ! What active step did our fathers take as regards Southern Kaduna’s case? What of the lady evangelist in Abuja that was killed? And now, Baba Adeboye !

These are signs for us to rise to defend what we have, that is our faith ! Otherwise, in our eyes, things may go worst. We need to be much more united now than before. We need to stop looking on our theological differences and come out bold !

We have been given the spirit of boldness, not fear.
We can challenge the authority and have our voices known. We can influence the policy and tell government what to do. Government shouldn’t be influencing us.

Christians, arise and act !
We need to build in our children boldness to defend what they believed in. It is good we’re building heavy Churches, but, if we will not come to “fight” together, we will be “destroyed” one after the other !

I will like to pause here with these statements, the earlier we rise, the better for us. It is shameful to be cowards ! Jesus Christ wasn’t a coward, neither Paul, or John the Baptist and the Beloved ! They were gallant soldiers of Christ.

Let’s us emulate them!

God bless the Church.
